A Night for the Grotto speaks to local Sudbury Sports Hall of Famer
By Randy Pascall
It's not the least bit unusual for Lucio Fabris to enjoy some quiet reflective moments, smack dab in the middle of a busy workday, by taking in one of his favourite Sudbury spots, smack dab in the middle of the downtown core.
His connection to the Sudbury Grotto runs deep.
The main amphitheatre and fountain were constructed by his late godfather, John Masotti, with the site continuing to flourish and grow thanks to the efforts of countless volunteers and the generosity of many a local resident.
On (Thursday) September 29th, Fabris and a host of others will continue their fundraising campaign to ensure that the hidden jewel right in the heart of Sudbury - though it becomes increasingly less hidden with every passing year, given that the site is a near ideal for graduation photos and such - hosting "A Night for the Grotto" at the Caruso Club.
A silver medal winner at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in badminton, Fabris is understandably proud of the site that represents so much of what a community that bands together can do.
The evening festivities will include music and entertainment courtesy of Jeff Wiseman, Jacinthe Trudeau and the Yes Theatre Group, with Med-I-Well Services, the Lougheed Foundation and Red Oak Villa - An Autumnwood Mature Lifestyles Community all serving as major sponsors.
Tickets are $60/person and are available at A & J Home Hardware, Old Rock Café, P & M's Kouzzina and Jett Landry Music. If you are interested in helping sponsor the festivities, contact Lucio Fabris either by phone (705-671-7356) or via email at lfabris@mediwell.ca.
